The Parish Churches of St. Mary and St. James, West Derby
Faith Groups
During the year there are various courses, such as the annual Lent Course where you can explore your faith in more depth through various themes. Courses and groups are announced regularly on the church bulletin and here on the website.

Throughout the year you can subscribe to the Bible Reading Fellowship Notes, through a church scheme co-ordinated by Hazel, who you can contact on 280 5689 for further details. Subscribers receive copies of 'New Daylight' or 'Guidelines'  which contain four months of daily readings, comments and prayers.

Each year, usually in the Springtime, parents are invited to enrol their children for First Communion Classes. The classes are led by the clergy, usually for one hour each week over a period of approximately eight weeks. At the end of the course the children take their first Holy Communion in a special service at St Mary's. The course is designed to be enjoyable and informative - the children complete a folder of information about themselves, their family and the church. It explains many of the traditions within the church and gives the children a chance to ask questions and gain knowledge of their faith.
Most years the Bishop of Liverpool or Warrington comes to St Mary's (Occasionally we go to the Cathedral) to confirm young people and adults. If you are an adult and would like to make a commitment to grow in faith and Christian life please do  onsider getting confirmed. We have a short course in the weeks running up to the confirmation. Each year we have a very interesting time discussing important matters of faith, looking at the Bible and getting to know each other. If you are not confirmed please do think about it.

Speak to te Clergy, or contact the Parish office if you any of your questions.
