The Parish Churches of St. Mary and St. James, West Derby
Women's Fellowship St Mary's
During 2009 Lent we had talks from members of the clergy during Lent ending with a service in Church during Holy Week. Following Easter during the rest of the year we had many interesting speakers talking on subjects such as the Williamson Tunnels, music and poetry, short stories, amusing anecdotes, women poisoners, history of T. J. Hughes, a prison chaplain, a clergyman’s childhood in Wales and the Atlantic Rowing Challenge in aid of cancer relief. We enjoyed an outing to the Bourne Poacher for lunch followed by dancing and singing. Thanks to a legacy from Win Pemberton we had a 3 course meal in the St Mary's Millennium Centre.
Some of our ladies knitted hats, gloves and scarves for the ‘Operation Christmas Child’ project. We also held bingo and beetle drive sessions and bring and buy sales.
St Mary's Women's Fellowship meet each Monday at 1.30pm in St Mary's Millennium Centre. We have an interesting programme of invited speakers and occasional coach trips to places of interest. New members are most welcome! Check our programme of meetings and just drop in, or telephone Marion on 256 6571 for further details.
